Farmland Owner Hub
About the Hub
The Farmland Owner Hub is for landowners in New York State who want to make their land available to farmers, steward their farmland, conserve their farmland, and ensure the future of their farms.
Farmland is a precious resource to our local and state economies, providing food, fiber, and other agricultural products as well as an environmental asset that provides wildlife habitat, clean groundwater, and climate resiliency. This resource is at risk due to the aging farmer population, who manage 2 million acres of land in New York, not having identified successors. Over the past 2 decades over 250,000 acres of New York's farmland has been lost or compromised (National Agricultural Statistics Service 2017).
As farmland owners, you are essential in ensuring our state continues to have thriving, active farmland. There are ways to pursue your own personal goals while also supporting farmland protection by making land accessible to a new and diverse generation of farmers, permanently protecting your land for the next generations and wildlife, and implementing regenerative farming practices.
The Farmland Owner Hub resources will help you explore your options and achieve your goals. We, the Farmland for a New Generation New York Team, suggests that you regularly connect with our team, Regional Navigators thoughout NYS, and other advisors to ask questions and receive personalized assistance.
