Condition & Current Use

We are owners of a lovely secluded farm property that is about 19 acres. We are weekenders at the property as we both have full time jobs. We need someone to manage and run the farm. We presently keep about 15 goats and 40 chickens  year round. Our plan was to milk goats  but we were unable to do this (not enough time). Our chickens are beginning to lay eggs- no market plan yet. We are looking to develop and operationalize a successful farm venture. We have all the infrastructure and most of the equiment needed. We are open to ideas for collaboration. Approximately 10 acres is fenced in. Most of this is pasture of our goats but can definitely be cultivated. The fences are in good condition. There is also a dedicated vegetable/fruit growing area surrounded by 320 ft of 8 ft tall deer fence.

Farm History & Past Use

Our property used to be a horse farm till 2022. We grew assorted vegetables this past year. We keep chickens and goats but have not developed a market plan. Our property is in the agricultural district in Dutchess county. We may be able to offer a 2 bedroom 1 bath updated accommodation on the property for the ideal candidate.

We are not interested in selling but would consider leasing the land for development- negotiable with a solid plan. We would also be happy to discuss a profit sharing plan.

Our goal is to operationalize the farm so it turns a profit within 2 years. My husband and I have full time jobs during the week so we will have very limited involvement in the day-to-day farming practices. My husband is a cardiologist and I am a pediatrician. We would potentially be interested in developing a creative program that teaches healthy food sourcing. We are willing to explore ideas with collaborators!

Equipment

We have a tractor,  brush hogging attachment, discs attachment, and a plow as well as an RTV. We have several hand tools as well.

We do not have equipment for hay making but are willing to consider investing in necessary equipment.

There are 2 sets of 3 barns on property, each set of three being 10 ft deep and 40 ft across. They are in good condition. Our goats are housed in one set of three barns. The other set of three barns is attached to a chicken run and is used as a chicken coop. We have other structures/sheds on property for hay storage.

We also have a large garage/barn where we store the tractor and equipment.

There are large solar panels on the property that provide electricity for the running of the farm.

Fencing

The fences cover about 8 acres. Part of the fence is electric. There is a 320 ft perimeter 8 ft high deer fence growing area. In addition there is an open paddock. Unsure what the paddock can be used for since we dont have horses. We are considering installing greenhouses since it is flat.

Water Access

there is access to water with excellent water pressure from taps behind the barns.

Barns for Livestock

There are two sets of three barns (40 ft x 10 ft)  for the goats and chickens. There is a chicken run attached to one of the barns. The chicken run is 12 x 26 ft and is fully enclosed.

Barns for Equipment/Storage

There is a large garage/ barn for equipment storage. There are other sheds for hay storage on the property.

Farmer Housing

An updated 2 bedroom 1 bath cottage with kitchenette may be made available on the property for the right candidate.
